1939–40 Romanian Hockey League season
The 1939-40 Romanian Hockey League season was the 14th season of the Romanian Championship. Rapid Bucharest won the championship.[1]
Season overview
The telephone company ceased sponsorship of all sports on November 15, 1939, marking the demise of Telefon Club Bucharest. Alexandru Botez and Paul Anastasiu, two of TCR's leaders, joined the new club, Rapid Bucharest.
Many Polish refugees, having fled the German Nazi invasion, had settled in Romania. There were some hockey players among them, who joined Romanian clubs. However, the federation barred them from being used in games. This led to heated debates.
Rapid Bucharest won their first and only championship by defeating Venus Bucharest in the final.

The Cernauti Championship began on January 14 and consisted of five teams - Dragos Voda B, Jahn, CFR, Borochow, and Muncitorul. Dragos Voda, Jahn, and to some extent CFR showed acceptable form compared to the other two clubs. The lack of players was felt by all teams, but especially Muncitorul, Borochow, and Jahn, and this greatly reduced the quality of the games, which were almost unnoticed by the public. The competition took only one week to complete, and was won by Dragos Voda.
The Northern League final was slated for January 24, with Dragos Voda Cernauti and HC Iasi set to face off. The next day, the loser of the final was pegged to play the runner-up in the Cernauti Championship for the title of second place in the Northern League. However, HC Iasi withdrew from the competition.
