The 30th Goodall Cup Inter-State Series between Victoria and New South Wales was staged. Victoria won the cup, defeating NSW in all four matches played.
The 25th New South Wales Championship took place in Sydney. The St. George Dragons, Eastern Suburbs (Monarchs), Western Suburbs (Tigers), and the Glebe Lions competed.
