Overview

The Victorian Championship series in Melbourne was held for the 33rd time. The participating teams were the Pirates, Monarchs, Tigers, Red Arrows, Golden Bears, Raiders, Blackhawks, Demons, and Wildcats. The title was won by the Bendigo Raiders.

The 31st Goodall Cup Inter-State Series between Victoria and New South Wales was staged. Tasmania also joined the competition for the first time. Victoria won the cup, defeating both opponents.

  • 3/6: Australia - New Zealand 6:1 - this was a game featuring teams composed of Korean War soldiers, played on the Imjin River. Brigadier General J. Rockingham, commander of the Canadian forces, presented the winners with a giant chocolate-covered doughnut.[33]
