The 1947 Goodall Cup was the 26th edition of the inter-state series between Victoria and New South Wales. It was won by Victoria, who claimed the championship for the 5th time in total, and the first since 1922.

The series

Game one

26 July 1947 In front of a packed Sydney Glaciarium the first game was won by Victoria. J. McLauchlan scored for New South Wales in the last minutes of the game.[1][2]

Game two

29 July 1947 Victoria won the 2nd game of the inter-state series and secured the Goodall Cup. Victoria opened with a 2 - 0 lead in the first period with a goal by A. Sengotti and R. Jones. In the second period, New South Wales reduced the lead when G. Thorn scored. In the third period, E. Winter scored for Victoria.[3][4][5]

Game three

31 July 1947 In the third game of the series, New South Wales completely outplayed Victoria and won the game 6 - 1. The first two games had been won by Victoria so the Goodall Cup had already been won.[6]

2nd match

"Victoria won the second of the interstate ice hockey series against New South Wales at the Glaciarium last night by 3 goals to one. The win, its second of the series, enabled Victoria to regain the Goodall Cup after 21 years. Last game of the series will be played at the Glaciarium tomorrow night. Victoria opened up a 2-0 lead in the first period with goals by A Sengotti and R Jones. The only goal in the second period was for NSW, when G Thorn, after a full rink run, beat Carson. In the third period E Winter scored for Victoria. During the game, S Green (NSW) was sent off twice and others who infringed and were sent from play were R Jones (Victoria), P Wendt (NSW), J Whyte (Victoria), A Sengetti (Victoria), and E Winter (Victoria)."

3rd match

"New South Wales completely outplayed Victoria in the third and final match of the interstate ice hockey series at the Glaciarium tonight to win by six goals to one. However, by winning the previous two matches Victoria had already taken the Goodall Cup. NSW captain, Jimmy McLauchlain, performed the hat-trick and played brilliantly throughout. McLauchlain scored in the first quarter and again in the second to put NSW in a sound position for the final period. Ken Kennedy travelled the full length of the rink, beating every Victorian player, to score for NSW. Further goals were added for NSW by Canadian Percy Wendt and W Johhnstone. W Harrison scored for Victoria."
