Match reports

3rd match

"New South Wales regained the ice hockey honours when it beat Victoria in the third and final game of the annual Interstate series at the Glaciarium last night by 10 goals to one. The home team played with vastly superior team work and individually shaded the Victorians, who lacked cohesion and direction. It was a fast game, with New South Wales setting the pace and opening most of the movements. New South Wales took command from the start, and within a minute of the opening play Brown carried the puck from his defensive line to Victorian territory, and passed to W. Johnston, who opened the scoring. Butler, the Victorian goal-keeper, repeatedly blocked shots by Moller and Went. Both teams used replacements, but this had no effect upon the home team's rate of scoring and domination of the game. Harrison next scored for New South Wales with a high shot. Jackson increased the tally. New South Wales continued to press, and Went scored with an acute angle shot. A passing rush, culminating in Jackson sending the puck to Johnston, who netted, gave New South Wales a lead of 5-0 at the end of the first period.

Victoria played with better combination in the second term, with Kelly, Bungey, and Mitchell prominent. New South Wales was too strong in defensive tactics, and the efforts petered out. Went added another goal for New South Wales with a difficult angle shot. Brown added another goal by taking the puck down the rink and the home team led 7-0 at the end of the second period. The third term was marked by vigorous and hustling play, which resulted in a number of heavy falls. Kelly at length gained possession, and after outwitting the home defenders, scored Victoria's goal. Brown then took charge, and from the halfway mark assayed a high shot that gave New South Wales its eighth goal. Jeffries soon afterwards netted another from a scramble and then Johnston sent the puck into the net with a smashing shot from a clever pass by Went."
