The 1954 Goodall Cup was the 33rd edition of the inter-state series between Victoria and New South Wales. It was won by Victoria, who claimed the championship for the 10th time in total. They would retain the trophy until 1963.

Series results

  • September 10, 1954: Victoria 11 - New South Wales 4
  • September 14, 1954: Victoria - New South Wales result unknown
  • September 17, 1954: Victoria - New South Wales result unknown

Reports

"Victoria, winner of the 1954 Goodall Cup, will go for a 'clean sweep' of the series when it meets NSW in the final round at St Moritz tonight.

Victoria's over-all strength has overwhelmed the visiting side in the first two rounds, but NSW played improved hockey last Tuesday.

The game should be played at a 'cracker' pace because NSW is determined to break Victoria's winning run before it returns on Saturday.

Blue Mclauchlan will return to the State side for the final game after having been dropped from the second round of the series.

Brian Bagnell, NSW's defence man, who suffered a facial injury during training yesterday is expected to have recovered sufficiently to play tonight.
