The 1956-57 Serie A season was the 23rd season of the Serie A, the top level of ice hockey in Italy. Six teams participated in the league, and SG Cortina won the championship.

Season Overview

A game between Milan Inter and hosts SG Cortina was marred by poor visibility due to heavy snowfall. The referees, Bruno Stenico and Romano Gasser, had decided to have the match, which was won 3-1 by the home time, be played in spite of the poor conditions. Milano filed a complaint to the Technical Committee (which Stenico was a member of), which was rejected.

The two sides met again late in the season, deadlocked at 14 points apiece. Due to goal quotients, Cortina only needed a tie to clinch the championship, while Milan required a victory. In an exciting game the guests, Cortina, prevailed 5-4 and clinched the championship. The teams both had games left against Turin after their encounter - Cortina won 6-3 while Inter tied Turin 7-7.
