There was controversy in the Auronzo-Alleghe game, which ended 3-2 for the former side on a last-second goal. Alleghe filed a complaint to the Federation, claiming that the winning goal scored after the siren had sounded. The FISG rejected their protest, as according to the official regulations, the referee's stopwatch was the official timekeeper not the siren.

The game between Inter Milan and Gherdeina on January 16, initially a 16-2 win for Milan, was changed to a 5-0 forfeit victory for the Milanese, as Gherdeina had listed the player Mc Innes on the scoresheet. He was signed after December 1, 1953, when the transfer window was closed. Inter Milan earned another forfeit win when Asiago did not appear at a match.

Controversy arose in the game Cortina between Inter and SG Cortina on February 7. With Milan up 8-7, Robert Dennison fired a shot that entered the Cortina net but immediately ricocheted out. The goal was not seen by either team, but was noticed by Renato Besostri, a former Diavoli manager who was standing five meters away from the net, and the goal was counted by the officials. The hosts protested to no avail, and decided to leave the ice. The official, after waiting for an hour and a half (far longer than the 20 minutes allowed in the regulations), with no sign of a Cortina return, declared Inter Milan winners by a 9-7 score. The Federation subsequently ruled the game a 5-0 Milan forfeit victory.
