Season notes

HC Diavoli Milano was forced to forfeit some of their matches by a 5:0 score for using a player, Ernesto Paracchini, without permission from his previous club, HC Turin. The Italian Federation (FISG) only reached the decision midway through the season, depriving Milano of three home victories.

Ernesto Crotti, a Milano executive who was largely responsible for adding three new teams to the Serie A for 1970-71, resigned from his position as head of the technical committee, and the club itself withdrew from the championship in protest.

The FISG responded by suspending Diavoli Milano from all competitions for a year. Upon appeal, the suspension was allowed to expire at the end of the year, and Milano returned to the Serie A the following season.
