St. Louis, Missouri

The Auditorium was converted into a swimming pool known as the Crystal Natatorium, that would be changed back into a hockey rink in the winter. The rink manager, Stanley Willett, intended to lure some big teams to St. Louis in 1909-10, including some Canadian squads. Willett wrote to the managers of some of the best Eastern teams, and hoped that some top college squads would come play in St. Louis over Christmas. He also tried to recruit some star Canadian players to line up for a local St. Louis team.[1] Willett attempted to arrange a series of inter-city games with Cleveland. The Illinois Athletic Club was slated to play in St. Louis on February 11 and 12.

The first hockey game of the season in St. Louis was arranged for February 3, 1910, the West Ends facing the Crystals. West Ends roster: Al. Johnson (goal), F.A. Heim (point), Andrew Drew (cover point), W. Price (rover), H. Potter (center), S. Hyatt (right wing), Dr. W. Dillon (left wing). Crystals roster: J.M. Bischoff (goal), D. McKenzie (point), S.T. Willett (cover point), Josh Lewis Jr. (rover), G. Dowling (center), Dr. W. Minges (right wing), Joe Forshaw (left wing).[2]

There were talks of St. Louis fielding a squad in a six city hockey league, also composed of teams from Cleveland, Boston, New York, Pittsburgh, and Chicago, but nothing came of the proposed league.

Spokane, Washington

There were talks of a Spokane hockey team playing in Nelson, British Columbia in January 1910.[3] Spokane also planned to compete in the Rossland Winter Carnival.[4] Spokane did not send a team as they did not receive $250 in expenses requested from the Carnival committee.
