Chicago, Illinois

The Great Lakes Naval Training Station team

The Illinois Athletic Club, Great Lakes Naval Training Station, and the Calumets all had active hockey teams this winter. A team from Milwaukee visited Chicago and a played a series of games against the local teams.

Cleveland, Ohio

The Cleveland Hockey Club played an independent schedule this winter, facing numerous Canadian teams. They played all their games at the Elysium.

Michigan

Following the government's orders prohibiting operation of artificial ice rinks during the war due to the use of chemicals needed for war purposes, the Detroit Arena was closed and turned into a dancing garden. The Detroit Community Hockey League was formed, with plans to play games outdoors. Due to weather conditions, only three are recorded to have taken place. The American Soo Nationals had a very strong independent team, and even challenged for the Allan Cup, emblematic of the Canadian senior amateur championship, but were rejected.

Minnesota

The Minneapolis Vertex Challenged the Minot Hockey Club from North Dakota to a game in Minneapolis. The St. Paul Company G team faced the touring Great Lakes Naval Training Station squad in a two-game series at the Hippodrome in early February. The St. Paul Athletic Club visited Michigan later in the month, where they lost two games to the American Soo. The Duluth Curling Club formed a team again and faced the St. Paul Athletic Club for the Minnesota State Championship. There were two games played in Duluth, and it was planned to stage two in St. Paul as well, but they did not come off.

New York

With the St. Nichols Rink being used for roller skating and dancing, the Brooklyn Ice Palace was the only indoor rink open in New York, and as a result, not much hockey was played in the state this winter. The Long Island Interscholastic Hockey League was staged at the Brooklyn Ice Palace. The Western New York Interscholastic Hockey League was contested in Buffalo. The University of Buffalo had a hockey team again for the first time in many years.
