The St. Paul Phoenix played in Duluth, Cleveland, Detroit this winter. They pulled out from the Twin City Hockey Championship in early February and were replaced by White Bear, after many of their players defected to the Iroquois. The Minneapolis Athletic and Boat Club won the Fawkes Trophy as Twin City champions. The Duluth-Superior Hockey League was contested at the Head of the Lakes, but it folded in late January, leaving Duluth Adams and Duluth Curling Club to play for the Duluth City Championship.

The American Amateur Hockey League was once again in operation in New York City. The Syracuse Arena opened in Syracuse for the 1911-12 season, providing the city with an indoor rink where hockey could be played. The first game took place on December 22. Syracuse University formed an ice hockey team, which played six games on the season. The local club team, the Syracuse Arenas, faced MIT, Rochester, Cleveland AC, and the Buffalo Hockey Club during the season. There were talks of a league being formed, including teams from Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Rochester, and Syracuse, for the 1912-13 season.

Wisconsin
From Spalding's Ice Hockey Guide 1913: "The season of 1911-12 was probably the most successful in the history of the two organizations, the Milwaukee Hockey League and Milwaukee Hockey Club, which have their headquarters within hailing distance of each other above the dam.
The long cold spell and the absence of the usual number of blizzards allowed ample opportunity for play on the open river and as the city officials provided space for the enthusiasts in one of the municipal parks which border on the river, postponements in the schedule because of poor ice or too much snow were missing.
The Milwaukee Hockey Club, playing its twentieth year, is probably the oldest active organization of its kind in the country. It is made up of Milwaukee business and professional men who either learned hockey while puttering around with a 'shinny' club in Milwaukee or took to the game at college and on return played it again as a means of exercise, thus providing the mental relaxation most required after a week of arduous office work. Among the most distinguished members of the club is the Hon. Francis E. McGovern, the president Governor of Wisconsin, who was an enthusiastic hockey player while acting as district attorney for Milwaukee county."
The White Squadron won the Milwaukee Hockey League title, narrowly defeating the Gordons 1-0 in the decisive game. The Nitchie Cheeman Canoe Club of Madison, a University of Wisconsin organization, had a hockey team, and faced the Gordons in a series of games.
There was also hockey in Eau Claire in 1912, the local team facing squads from Minnesota.
