The Colorado School of Mines organized a hockey team this winter. The University of Colorado also formed a team in late February, and planned to face the Colorado School of Mines in a game that did not come off due to mild weather conditions. The North Denver, Pastime, and Manhattan hockey teams were active in Denver. In Colorado Springs, there were two juvenile hockey teams, the Ivywilds and the North Ends.

The Milwaukee Hockey League was formed, composed of the West Division High School, East Division High School, Montreal Juniors (Milwaukee Academy), Wauwatosa, Marquette College, and the St. John's Military Academy. On January 22, Marquette College was reported to be tied for first with the Montreal Juniors. Pittsburgh reportedly wanted to play in Milwaukee, but the challenge was not accepted due to expenses. The Montreal Juniors accepted the challenge of the Calumet team of Chicago and were set to play there on February 13. Kaukauna and Appleton met in a game on February 7.

Michigan

The Portage Lakes Hockey Club

The Portage Lakes Hockey Club had a dominant team in 1903-04, going 23-2 on the year, outscoring their opponents 257-49. They defeated the Pittsburgh Victorias 2-1 in a three-game series for the Championship of the United States. Portage Lakes later faced the Montreal Wanderers in a two-game series that was said to be for the "Championship of the World". Portage won both games handily. Team roster: Jack Gibson, Joe Linder, Hod Stuart (defensemen), Bert Morrison (rover), Cooney Shields, (right wing), Bruce Stuart (center), Ernie Westcott (left wing), Riley Hern (goaltender), Fred Westcott.

The Michigan Soo Indians also had a successful season playing an independent schedule. Team roster: Jack Baker, Andy Haller, Billy Hamilton, Fred Lake (defensemen), Con Marrin, Herbert Meinke (centers), Frank Schweitzer (left wing), Joe Stephens (rover), Joe Jones (goaltender).

There was a lot of hockey played in Detroit and the surrounding areas this winter.

Minnesota

The Twin City Hockey League was contested again and the St. Paul Victorias repeated as Dunbar Cup champions. Five teams participated in the league, the Victorias, Virginias, Mascots, Shamrocks (also known as the St. Paul Hockey Club), and the University of Minnesota.

The St. Paul Victorias went to Michigan to play the Portage Lakes Hockey Club and the Soo Indians in late December, getting blasted in all four games.

North Dakota

The Grand Forks Hockey Club faced the Park River Hockey Club twice in late January, splitting the games. Grand Forks defeated Argyle 5-2 on February 2. Argyle held the championship of Northern Minnesota. Inkster attempted to a arrange a tournament featuring the hockey teams of Hannah, Park River, Grand Forks, and Inkster. Grand Forks also met and defeated the University of North Dakota club twice. Hannah was noted to have lost two of the three games they played against Canadian teams this winter.

The Cleveland Hockey Club held a meeting on December 21, 1903. They received offers for games from Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and Toronto. The Columbia Athletic Club also formed a team. Landon AC faced the Wigwams on January 13. There was also a game played in Canton on the 15th.

The Western Pennsylvania Hockey League was contested again in 1903-04, as was the Pittsburgh Interscholastic Hockey League. The Pittsburgh Victorias won the WPHL championship, and hosted the Portage Lakes Hockey Club for the Championship of the United States in mid-March. They lost the three game series 2-1.

St. Louis, Missouri

Although the St. Louis Ice Palace had closed, the World's Fair Hockey Club assembled a team that faced the Portage Lakes Hockey Club in Houghton, Michigan, on December 25 and 26, 1903. World's Fair was blasted in both games, losing 21-0 and 24-0, respectively.

Wisconsin

The Milwaukee Hockey League was formed, composed of the West Division High School, East Division High School, Montreal Juniors (Milwaukee Academy), Wauwatosa, Marquette College, and the St. John's Military Academy. On January 22, Marquette College was reported to be tied for first with the Montreal Juniors. Pittsburgh reportedly wanted to play in Milwaukee, but the challenge was not accepted due to expenses. The Montreal Juniors accepted the challenge of the Calumet team of Chicago and were set to play there on February 13. Kaukauna and Appleton met in a game on February 7.
