History of hockey in Bahrain

Bahrain had as many as eight active senior teams in the 1980s. The Bahrain Buds won tournaments in Dubai in 1995 and 1996, and finished in second place in 1994. The Funland Centre is the country's only ice rink.

The country has a recreational league, sponsored by DHL, known as the Bahrain Ice Hockey League. It was established in May 2014 and features both native players and expats.[1]

The Bahraini National Team made its debut on January 8, 2010, playing a friendly game against Kuwait, which they lost 10-3. They participated in the Premier Division of the 2011 Asian Winter Games ice hockey tournament, failing to win a game while being outscored 138-11 in six games. Bahrain later competed at the 2012 Gulf Ice Hockey Championship and the 2014 Desert Cup.
