History of hockey in Tunisia
The country's first ice rink is located at the Blue Ice complex in the Yasmine Hammamet resort. It opened in 2008.[1] The Tunisian Ice Hockey Association was created in 2009. It is headed by Ihab Ayed, a French-Tunisian player who is among the driving forces of ice hockey in the country. Becoming IIHF associate members by 2017 is listed among the association's long-term goals.[2]
The Tunisian National Team made its debut on June 14, 2014, taking on a French club team, the Coqs de Courbevoie. They were defeated 6-5.[3] Recruitment for the national team began back in 2006. They competed in the 2023 Arab Cup of Ice Hockey, finishing in sixth place.
The 2009 IIHF Semi-Annual Congress was held in Tunis, and the country would later join the International Ice Hockey Federation on September 22, 2021.
