History of hockey in Pakistan
An official IIHF news release from 2005 stated that "Pakistan also applied for a membership but the congress decided to postpone the application until the ice hockey program in the country will have a better structure."[1] There is an ice rink located at the multi-sport facility, known colloquially as the Arena, in Karachi.[2]
In March 2018, the Shaheen Ice Hockey Team, sponsored by Shaheen Air International, won the Lion City Cup in Singapore.[3] On December 29, 2018, the first-ever ice hockey game in Pakistan was played between the Pakistan Air Force and the G-B Scouts at the winter resort of Naltar in Gilgit-Baltistan. The match went to a penalty shootout, in which Shahryar scored the only goal of the game, giving PAF the win.[4]
The Pakistani Championship was contested for the first time in 2019.
