Junior hockey in Great Britain consists of separate English and Scottish competitions, which currently range from U11 to U20.

A true national junior championship was first contested in England in 1982-83, after the formation of a national federation in 1981.

A U16 (later U15) British national championship between the English and Scottish league winners was introduced in 1985-86. A U13 (which became U14 the following year) national championship was added in 1987-88.

U12 competitions were first contested in England and Scotland during the 1988-89 season, as the Pee-Wee classification (formerly U13), was broken into two groups, U12 and U14.

The last national British championship to be held was in 1996-97. Since then, the English and Scottish champions have not met to determine an overall British winner.

A four-team British U20 Championship involving the top English and Scottish U20 teams was introduced for the 2015-16 season. The other age groups in England were also tweaked that year - with U16, U14, and U12 all being reduced by a year (to U15, U13, and U11).

The English leagues are administered by the English Ice Hockey Association, while Scottish Ice Hockey controls the competition in Scotland.

The English U16 Girls League has been contested since 2007.
