Rzeszów District Championship

The Rzeszów District Championship was a regional ice hockey competition played in Poland from 1950 until at least 1970. In 1954, the district champion earned the right to compete in the promotion round to the Polska Liga Hokejowa. In 1955 and 1956, the winner played in the promotion round to the Polish 2. Liga. From 1957-1970, the competition was one of the regional groups in the Polish 3. Liga.

1950

This was the Eastern Group of the Krakow District Championship:

  1. Kolejarz Przemysl 2-0-0 24:1
  2. Zwiazkowiec Krosno 1-0-1 11:10
  3. Wlokniarz Krosno 0-0-2 4:28

Kolejarz Przemysl earned the right to compete in the finals of the Krakow Championship.

1951

The following clubs were slated to compete in the Rzeszow District Championship this year: Kolejarz Przemyśl, Spójnia Rzeszów, Unia Gorlice, Unia Krosno, Włókniarz Krosno, with the possibility of Związkowiec Przemyśl and Unia Przeworsk participating as well, if they received the necessary equipment. No information is available on the season itself.

1952

The championship was divided into three groups of play. Group I: Budowlani Przemyśl, Kolejarz Przemyśl, Spójnia Jarosław, Group II - Spójnia Rzeszów, Stal Mielec, Stal Stalowa Wola, Group III - Unia Krosno, Unia Gorlice, Włókniarz Krosno.

The final tournament was held in Rzeszów. 1. Spojnia Rzeszow, 2. Stal Stalowa Wola, 3. Spojnia Jaroslaw, 4. Gornik Krosno.

1953

Górnik Gorlice, Kolejarz Przemyśl, GWKS and the defending champion, Spójnia Rzeszów qualified for the final roubd, which was slated to be held in Rzeszów on February 20-21, 1953. Spójnia qualified automatically as last year's champion.

1954

Final tournament: 1. Stal Stalowa Wola, 2. Gwardia Rseszow, 3. Spojnia Rzeszow, 4. Gornik Krosno. Stal Stalowa Wola advanced to the promotion round to the Polska Liga Hokejowa.

1955

Sparta Rzeszów and Górnik Glinik (Group I) and Stal Stalowa Wola and Kolejarz Przemyśl (Group II) qualified for the final tournament. In the final match of the tournament, Stal defeated Sparta 5:1 (2:0, 1:0, 2:1) to win the championship. Stal Stalowa Wola advanced to the promotion round to the Polish 2. Liga.

1956

The teams were divided into three groups. Kolejarz Przemyśl, Stal Rzeszów, and Włókniarz Krosno participated in Group III. In the final tournament, Stal Rzeszow won the championship by defeating Resovia 6:2 (1:0, 3:1, 2:1). Stal Stalowa Wola finished third. Stal Rzeszow advanced to the promotion round to the Polish 2. Liga.

1963

The Rzeszow Championship was contested as a division within the Klase A of the Krakow District Championship this year. During the season three teams joined: Czuwaj Przemyśl, MZKS Krosno, Stal Rzeszów.

Results: MZKS - Czuwaj 2:2, 0:1; Stal - MZKS 1:2, 2:1; Czuwaj - Stal 3:5, 2:1, Stal - Czuwaj 3:1, 8:1; MZKS - Stal 4:7; Czuwaj - MZKS 2:4, 7:6. In the Rzeszów group, Stal Rzeszów finished first (with 10 points in 8 matches, ahead of MZKS and Czuwaj with points), and qualified for the Krakow District Championship with teams from Nowy Targ: Podhale Ib (1st place in the Krakow group) and Wisła (2nd place).

1965

For 1964-65, the competition was reorganized as the Krakow-Rzeszow Regional League. The following teams participated: Czuwaj Przemyśl, KS Cracovia Ib, Podhale Nowy Targ II, Olsza Kraków, PKS Dębnicki, Unia Oświęcim, Wisła Nowy Targ, WKS Zakopane.

1966

The Rzeszow Championship was reintroduced this year. Czuwaj Przemyśl, Górnik Gorlic, JKS Jarosław, Karpaty Krosno, Stal Sanok, and Stal Rzeszów were invited to participate. On January 22-23, 1966, a tournament for the WKKFiT Cup was organized, which Czuwaj, Gornik, Karpat, and Sanok competed in. In one of the games, Sanok defeated Gornik 3-1. Czuwaj was also reported to be in a Krakow District League with KTH Ib Krynica and Wisla Nowy Targ.

1967

1968

The following teams were slated to participate: Czuwaj Przemyśl, Górnik Gorlice, JKS Jarosław, Karpaty Krosno, Stal Sanok. The matches were scheduled to take place between January 6 and February 11, 1968. No further information is available. There was also reported to be a Krakow-Rzeszow Regional League with Czuwaj, Cracovia Ib, Olsza Krakow, and Unia Oswiecim.
