The Latvian 1. Līga was established for the 2014-15 season as the second-tier of ice hockey in Latvia below the Latvian Hockey League.
It was formed to fill the void of the Latvian U20 League. The teams were primarily composed of players 20 and under but older players as well as some under 18s also participated.
The league was renamed the Junior Attistibas Hokeja Liga (JAHL) for the 2018-19 season. Teams were only allowed to play with four players over the age of 20.
Previously, a second-level league known as the Pirma Liga had been contested.
