The United States Amateur Hockey Association returned for its third season of play in 1922-23. 12 teams, divided into two divisions, competed in the league.

Chicago, Illinois

Game action between the Lake Forest Winter Club and Kenosha

The Chicago Hockey Association was set to operate a league again this winter, and the Cascade Gardens were admitted to the competition. The Canadian Club was said to have won the title, but no game results were reported in the local newspapers. The North Shore Hockey League was comprised of Evanston, Indian Hill, Highland Park, and Lake Forest for the 1922-23 season. The Illinois Athletic Club, Lake Forest Winter Club, and the Canadian Club played a series for the Chicago City Championship.

The Boston Athletic Association, Boston Victorias, and the Boston Hockey Club competed in the United States Amateur Hockey Association in 1922-23. The Melrose Hockey Club was dropped by the USAHA as they were not deemed to be a drawing card.

Michigan

The American Soo, Calumet, and Portage Lakes all withdrew from the United States Amateur Hockey Association prior to the 1922-23 season. The Windsor teams withdrew from the Detroit-Windsor Amateur Hockey Association, so it was renamed the Detroit-Highland Park Amateur Hockey Association. On February 6, the Highland Park Paint & Glass team was reported to be 12-0 on the season, and it was also noted that the Rayls had disbanded. On March 1, Highland Park was noted to have won the league championship, and it was also said that they had still not suffered a defeat, outside of a two-game series against Cleveland.

They also played in the Seattle City League, finishing behind the Pirates and Wanderers, and ahead of the American Legion team.
