The United States Amateur Hockey Association returned for its fourth season of play in 1923-24. 10 teams, divided into two divisions, competed in the league.

Chicago, Illinois

The North Shore Hockey League was contested again this winter, and featured six teams in the competition. Several games were played in Milwaukee, the teams making use of the indoor arena there.

Iowa

The Sioux City Hockey League was contested for the first time in 1923-24. The Iowa University Hawkeyes had an ice hockey team this winter. In a game on January 20, the Hawkeyes drubbed the Iowans 4-0. The Iowans got revenge the next week, blasting the Iowans 6-1.

Both New York St. Nicholas and the New York Canadian Club withdrew from the United States Amateur Hockey Association. St. Nicholas played an independent schedule for 1923-24. Some other notable teams to do so were the Nichols Hockey Club, Albany Country Club, Syracuse Crescents, and the Rochester Hockey Club.

The Philadelphia and Suburban Ice Hockey League was also established in the city. The West Penn Hockey League was contested at Duquesne Gardens in Pittsburgh.

The Seattle Metropolitans once again participated in the Pacific Coast Hockey Association, in what proved to be the last season of the league. The University of Washington played a series against the University of British Columbia, with Washington copping the Northwest Intercollegiate Championship. The Wilkerson Trophy was an international series contested by teams from Seattle, Vancouver, and Victoria.
