The Vtoraya Liga was the third level of ice hockey in the Soviet Union, below the Soviet Championship League and the Pervaya Liga. The league was first contested during the 1963-64 season.
History
The Vtoraya Liga was initially known as the Klass B, which it was known as through the 1965-66 season.
It then became the III gruppa for two seasons (1966-67 and 1967-68) prior to being known as the Vtoraya gruppa for 1968-69. A year later, the third-level league became the Klass A, group 2 (also called Vtoraya Liga).
For the 1980-81 season, the league became known officially the Vtoraya Liga, a name it held until folding after the 1991-92 season.
