After the collapse of the Tropical Hockey League following the 1938-39 season, hockey did not resume again in Miami until July 14, 1940, when a benefit game for the crippled children's hospital was arranged between Coral Gables and Miami Beach. The Coral Gables Seminoles and Miami Beach Pirates went on to play a series of games against one another, in a so-called Miami Amateur Hockey League.
