Danish Division 1 is the second-level ice hockey league in Denmark. It lies below the AL-Bank Ligaen.

History

The 2. division was founded in 1960-61. The tournament consisted of two regional groups (east and west). The winners of the two groups played off for a spot in the promotion/relegation game against the team that finished last in the 1. division (then the top-tier Danish league). Starting with the 1968-69 season, the two regional groups of 2. division were replaced by a national 2. division covering the entire country.

With the expansion of the 1. division to 14 teams for 1984-85, all 2. division sides were invited to join the league and the second-tier competition was not contested that year. When the 1. division changed its name to Eliteserien for the 1985-86 season, the second-level league was reintroduced, with the 2. division being renamed the 1. division.
