The Österreichische Amateur Hockey Liga was founded as the new third-level ice hockey league in Austria for the 2018-19 season. It was the first time a third-level league was played in Austria since the Nationale Amateur Hockey Liga was in operation in 2013-14. After being dormant for two years, the third-level competition was revived as the Österreichische Eishockey Liga for 2021-22.
