Olympic Games
The Augsburg College team was set to represent the United States in the 1928 Winter Olympics. However, the US wound up withdrawing from the tournament, as Major-General Douglas MacArthur of the American Olympic Committee felt Augsburg was not sufficiently representative, and William S. Haddock, president of the United States Amateur Hockey Association, refused to send another team to compete. In early January, it was noted that the Rochester Hockey Club was also being considered as the American representative. Haddock had also hoped that Eveleth would compete in the tournament.
Montana
The Butte City League was contested by three teams in 1927-28. Anaconda did not have a hockey team this year.

Spokane, Washington
Members of the Spokane Zips played two exhibition inter-club games at the Cannon Hill Park as part of an ice carnival on January 2, 1928, as the Coeur d'Alene Eskimos were unable to come. Spokane and Coeur d'Alene faced each other six times on the season, with the former team claiming the L.M. Davenport Trophy.

There were plans to stage an ice hockey game between the St. Louis Winter Garden and Alton, Illinois, teams as part of the Silver Skates Carnival in St. Louis on January 2, but it was cancelled.
