After the collapse of the [[Tropical Hockey League]] following the 1938-39 season, hockey did not resume again in Miami until July 14, 1940, when a benefit game for the crippled children's hospital was arranged between Coral Gables and Miami Beach. The Coral Gables Seminoles and Miami Beach Pirates went on to play a series of games against one another, in a so-called Miami Amateur Hockey League. In January, a Miami team was added to the competition. Coral Gables won the championship.
