The Spanish Championship was first contested in 1923. It was held until 1926, before ceasing after the closure of the Palacio del Hielo y del Automovil. A second division called the "Segunda categoria" was also staged in 1925 and 1926. Azul Hockey Club won the inaugural 1923 Championship, and Club Alpino Español claimed the next three titles.
