The Leningrad Championship was played for the 17th consecutive season. Dynamo Leningrad won the Group 1 championship.

A rather unusual points system was used - 24 points for a victory, 16 points for a draw, and 8 points for a loss.

Krasnaya Roza won the second group. Krylya Sovetov earned promotion to Group 1 by finishing first in the club standings.

Men's tournament

32 teams competed in the tournament, which was played from January 2 to 28. The competition also counted for the Soviet Cup, with the semifinals and finals composing Zone 8 of the competition. The five best Moscow teams (Burevestnik, Dynamo, Lokomotiv, Spartak, and CDKA) received byes to the 1/8 finals of the Soviet Cup and did not compete in the Moscow Cup.
