Leningrad Championship
The Leningrad Championship was played for the eighth consecutive season. 40 teams were divided into five groups of play. The points system was changed. In the first group, teams received 5 points for a win and 2.5 for a draw. In the second group, teams received 4 and 2 points, the third 3 and 1.5, and the fourth 2 and 1.

The Moscow Championship was contested for the eighth time in 1930. 46 teams were divided into seven groups of play. The first group competition was staged from December 30 to March 1. A women's championship was also held, but was not completed due to thaw, although Pishevik was awarded victory in the club standings.

A rather unusual points system was used - 24 points for a victory, 16 points for a draw, and 8 points for a loss. Dynamo also finished first in the club standings with 583 points.
