Hockey returned to Muncie this winter, with the Chicago Hornets edging the Muncie Chiefs 4-3 on January 25, 1942. Three more games were later played, Muncie winning them all.

Four Seattle teams competed in the Northwest Hockey League with the Portland Buckaroos and Portland Waterfront. After the league folded in late December, they continued playing in the Seattle City League. On February 23, 1942, Sick's Selects and Shurfine Grocers of Seattle played an exhibition game at the Spokane Ice Arena.
