The United States Amateur Hockey Association returned for its fourth season of play in 1923-24. 10 teams, divided into two divisions, competed in the league.

Chicago, Illinois

The North Shore Hockey League was contested again this winter, and featured six teams in the competition. Several games were played in Milwaukee, the teams making use of the indoor arena there.

The Border Cities Hockey League was formed for the 1923-24 season. It featured teams from Detroit, Highland Park, and Windsor, Ontario. Highland Park Paint & Glass disbanded early in the season.

New York

Both New York St. Nicholas and the New York Canadian Club withdrew from the United States Amateur Hockey Association. St. Nicholas played an independent schedule for 1923-24. Some other notable teams to do so were the Nichols Hockey Club, Albany Country Club, Syracuse Crescents, and the Rochester Hockey Club.

Pennsylvania

The Pittsburgh Yellow Jackets returned to play in the United States Amateur Hockey Association for 1923-24. The Quaker City Hockey Club was revived after being dormant the previous year, and took part in an independent schedule of games. The Philadelphia and Suburban Ice Hockey League was also established in the city.

The Seattle Metropolitans once again participated in the Pacific Coast Hockey Association, in what proved to be the last season of the league. The University of Washington played a series against the University of British Columbia, with Washington copping the Northwest Intercollegiate Championship.
