The Ice Palace Lyon was closed due to damaged ice caused by a malfunction in the refrigeration system. As a result, three teams from Lyon - SC Lyon, HC Lyon, and Star Club Lyon - were forced to fold.

The Lyonnais Championship was eventually contested on an outdoor ice surface between FC Lyon and U.S. Nantua (Union Sportive Nantua). However, by the time it had been contested, it was too late to organize a French national championship.

Club des Patineurs de Paris and CP Riviera took part solely in international activities during the 1908-09 season.
