In December 1929, it was reported that lightweight boxing Benny Leonard planned to form a professional ice hockey league in the Southwest, composed of teams from Dallas, Fort Worth, Oklahoma City, and Tulsa. The San Antonio Rangers planned to go on a long tour, visiting 35 cities along the Pacific Coast, British Columbia, and the Midwest, from January to March 1930, but it did not materialize. The University of Minnesota visited Dallas in early January, losing 9-4 to the Ice Kings on the 3rd. The Tulsa Oilers of the American Hockey Association also paid a visit to Dallas.
