Slovenian Championship

The Slovenian Championship was played for the first time in 1949. Hockey was now played in six different cities (including Maribor, who did not field a team in the championship). The best of the new clubs was Jesenice, where the first hockey demonstrations had taken place a decade earlier. The name of the club was a tribute to Jože Gregorčič, a Communist who fought during the Spanish Civil War and was the leader of the Jesenice Partisan Battalion during World War II (he died in 1942 in a Nazi hunt).
