United States Amateur Hockey Association

The United States Amateur Hockey Association, which replaced the International Skating Union as the governing body for ice hockey in America, established the country's first true national league for the 1920-21 season. 12 teams, divided into three divisions, competed in the league in its inaugural season.

Chicago, Illinois

The Chicago Hockey Association had a league for the 1920-21 season, featuring six teams. The North Shore League was also in existence, composed of the Highland Park Wanderers, Evanston, Winnetka, Kenilworth, Skokie, and Lake Forest. Due to mild weather conditions, only a few games were actually played this winter.

Minnesota

Minneapolis Millers

The St. Paul Athletic Club, Duluth American Legion, and Eveleth Reds all competed in the United States Amateur Hockey Association this winter. The Minneapolis Millers hoped to join the league too, but were unsuccessful, and played an independent schedule for the season.

The Quaker City Hockey Club joined the United States Amateur Hockey Association for the 1920-21 season. The Pittsburgh Hockey Club was originally slated to play in the league too, but were forced to withdraw when the Duquesne Gardens management cancelled their lease on December 28, 1920. The Pittsburgh Amateur Hockey League was however contested.

Seattle, Washington

The Seattle Metropolitans once again participated in the Pacific Coast Hockey Association. The University of Washington played a series against the University of British Columbia.

St. Louis, Missouri

There were plans to form men's and women's hockey leagues in St. Louis for the 1920-21 season, composed of four teams each. St. Louis University, St. Louis Country Club, the Rovers, and an independent team were set to compete in the men's league. The teams had begun practicing in December, but the leagues did not wind up playing. There was an advertisement for a game between the Rovers and St. Louis University, scheduled to take place on February 1, 1921. The Rovers defeated the Bilikens in the game. Another ad appeared for a girls hockey game between Washington University and the Debs, slated for February 16. The Rovers and Billikens were scheduled to play again on February 23.
