New Jersey

The North Jersey Hockey League was contested again this winter. The league began the year playing at the indoor River Vale rink, but was "unceremoniously ejected" from it after only six games, and moved over to the Bear Mountain (NY) rink. Short Hills and Ridgelawn were unable to remain in the league due to the travel distances, and the season was restarted with four teams. The Atlantic City Sea Hawks had an independent amateur team.

Washington

The Spokane Aces were an independent team formed for the 1939-40 season. They are only recorded to have played in one game. In Yakima, there was a City Hockey League in existence. The season came to an end on February 23, when the rink withdrew playing time for the games. The Sunset Oilers won the championship with a record of 4-2, ahead of Red & White and the Merchants. The Seattle City Amateur Hockey League was contested this winter.
