The 1953-54 RSFSR Championship season was divided into multiple regional groups to start. The top teams from the regional groups advanced to play in the final tournament.
First round
Zone 1
Other participants: Red Flag Pavlovsky Posad, Zenith Zagorsk, Metallurg Elektrostal, "Machine Engineer" Podolsk, Palace of Culture Karl Marx-2 Elektrostal.
Zone 2
Other participants: Sparak Ivanovo, Lokomotiv Vologda, Dynamo Kostroma. Known scores: Gorky 4 - Vologda 1, Gorky 11 - Kostroma 1, Ivanovo 14 - Kostroma 2.
Zone 3
Other participants: Spartak Tula, Dynamo Voronezh, Dynamo Rostov-on-Don. Known scores: Bobrik 11 - Tula 2, Bobrik 13 - Voronezh 1, Bobrik 18 - Rostov 2, Voronezh 7 - Rostov 2.
