The United States Amateur Hockey Association returned for its fifth and final season of play in 1924-25. 10 teams, divided into two divisions, competed in the league.

California

The Palais de Glace opened in Los Angeles, and the California Hockey League was soon established, comprised of three teams.

Chicago, Illinois

The planned playing schedule for the North Shore Hockey League

The Illinois Athletic Club planned to hold its first hockey practice on December 27, 1924. The North Shore Hockey League was once again in operation, with six teams competing. The Chicago Ice Hockey League was also formed.

Massachusetts

At the November 1924 National Hockey League meeting, the NHL approved two new franchises, including its first franchise in the United States of America. Charles Adams of Boston was granted a franchise. The Boston Bruins finished last in the league in their inaugural season, with a record of 6-24. The Boston Athletic Association, Boston Hockey Club, and Boston Maple AA all returned to compete in the United States Amateur Hockey Association as well.

Michigan

The Border Cities Hockey League, made up of teams from Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, was contested again in 1924-25. The Detroit Hockey Club withdrew from the league on January 14, as they held a franchise in the United States Amateur Hockey League, and operated under its jurisdiction, which forbade them from playing Canadian teams, of which there were two in the BCHL.

Minnesota again had four teams in the United States Amateur Hockey Association this winter, the Duluth Hornets, Eveleth Reds, Minneapolis Rockets, and the St. Paul Athletic Club.

Montana

Three teams competed in the Montana Senior Amateur Hockey Association in 1924-25, the Montana Hardware and Marquette clubs of Butte, and the Anaconda club. Due to a lack of ice, the full playing schedule was not completed, and the season ended with Marquette atop the table.

The North Jersey Country Club had an independent team this winter.

Pennsylvania

Pittsburgh had two teams in the United States Amateur Hockey Association in 1924-25, the Pittsburgh Yellow Jackets and Pittsburgh Fort Pitt. They played in separate divisions, and wound up facing off for the league championship. The Yellow Jackets beat Fort Pitt 4 games to none in the final. In Philadelphia, the local hockey league returned, and composed of Chestnut Hill, Main Line, Swarthmore, and Norristown.

Spokane, Washington

In January 1925, the Spokane Arctic Club formed an ice hockey team. The Fourth Infantry at Fort George Wright also organized a team, which faced the Arctic Club on January 11, and again on the 25th. Manager H.R. Abbey of the Arctic tried to organize a game with the Couer d'Alene, Idaho, hockey team.
