The Grimsby Ice Rink opened in Grimsby, England, on August 9, 1930. A form of ice hockey was first played there in 1932. There were initially columns at the center of the ice, which were removed in the summer of 1936 and the rink re-opened on September 19. The Grimsby and District Ice Hockey League was formed that fall, and a year later the Grimsby Redwings were created. After the war, the Grimsby Town League and Grimsby Tournament were contested, with the Redwings also competing in the Midland Intermediate League from 1951-1955. The team reformed in 1947 and beat the Liverpool Leopards 7-6 on January 8, 1949. The rink closed in 1956, but the Redwings continued to play away games until 1959.
