The Furukawa Ice Hockey Club (also known as Furukawa Electric and Furukawa Denko) was an ice hockey in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan.

History

Founded in 1911 as the ice hockey club of the Nikko Copper Refinery , the predecessor of Furukawa Electric's Nikko Plant, the team was officially recognized as a corporate team in 1925. It was also the oldest ice hockey team in Japan.

The team participated in the Japan Ice Hockey League from its inaugural tournament in 1966, and for many years, it was a beloved community team in Nikko, transcending the boundaries of a corporate team. At Furukawa Electric, it was positioned as a symbolic sport of the company, along with the Furukawa Electric Soccer Club.

Due to declining performance caused by the recession and as part of cost-cutting measures, the ice hockey club suspended its activities after the 1999 season, bringing an end to its nearly 90-year history as a corporate team. However, the Nikkō Ice Bucks were subsequently established by local residents and continues to participate in Asia League Ice Hockey.

The Furukawa Electric Ice Rink, which was located within the Nikko Plant and served as the team's headquarters, was also closed in 2000.
