Austrian National League

The Austrian National League (German:Österreichische Eishockey-Nationalliga) was the second highest league of the three nationwide ice hockey leagues in Austria. The winner of the league could theoretically move up to the Austrian Hockey League, but in practice that did not happen often, because of the higher cost of competing at the higher level. There was unofficial cooperation between some EBEL and National league teams, but the EC Red Bull Salzburg II was the only team that operated as a real farm-team.

The league was first held in 1959-60. It did not operate from 1968-1975 and 1994-1996. The National League folded following the 2011-12 season and was replaced by the Inter-National League, which consisted of teams from Austria, Italy, and Slovenia.
