1972–73 Danish 1. division season
The 1972-73 Danish 1. division season was the 16th season of ice hockey in Denmark. Ten teams participated in the league, and Herning IK won the championship. IK Aalborg was relegated.
Herning was one point ahead of the KSF and two points in front of Esbjerg with two games remaining, before facing Esbjerg at home. The prospect of a first Danish Championship put the nerves of the 3700 spectators on edge. They threw bottles of beer on the ice when Herning reduced the score from 0-5 to 1-5. The score was 3-5 early in the third period when another bottle was thrown on the ice. The referees then stopped the game for safety reasons. The federation replayed the game on neutral ground (the Copenhagen Forum), and Herning won 3-2, before securing the title by winning 8-5 at Rungsted.
