This was the 1928 ice hockey season in Japan:

Overview

The first All-Japan skating and ice hockey tournament was scheduled to take place on Lake Suwa, commencing on January 14. Ice hockey tryouts were slated to be held on the 14th and 15th, with the semifinals and finals being staged on the 16th.[1]

It was then planned to push the All-Japan Ice Hockey Championship back to January 21 and 22. The Sendai Skating Association, Sendai Second Higher School, Sapporo, Tohoku Imperial University and several teams from the vicinity of Nikko were set to compete.[2] The competition wound up being held on January 14-17.

“The Tokyo Imperial University Skating Club, which is to participate in the forthcoming skating tournament at Lake Suwako, Shinshu, on Jan. 10, will send a party of select ice-hockey and speed skaters to Manchuria, where it hopes to have games and competitions at Dalren, Hoten and Antung.”[3]
