For the third year, the Portage Lakes Hockey Club, Calumet Wanderers, and Michigan Soo Indians competed in the International Professional Hockey League, along with the Canadian Soo and the Pittsburgh Pros. The league folded after the season, bringing an end to professional hockey in the Copper Country. It had been planned to continue the league for 1907-08, and teams from Columbus, Ohio (who had initially been expected to join for 1906-07, but did not due to the lack of a rink), and Toronto, Ontario, were said to be likely to join.[1]

In Detroit, the Athletic Club and Marlboroughs were the main teams in the city. A school hockey league with four teams was also organized. Portage Lake Hardware won a "commercial championship" this winter. The Puck Wedgers won the Copper Country Intermediate Championship.

On December 2, 1906, it was reported that Manager Mace of the Norfolk Ice Palace had perfected agreements for a series of three games between Princeton and Norfolk, set for December 30, 31, and January 1.[2] The series wound up being cancelled. The Norfolk and Jamestown hockey clubs were set to begin the season at the Ice Palace on January 5, 1907.[3] Norfolk defeated Jamestown in a close game. On January 10, it was reported that a series of five games to decide the Championship of Norfolk had been arranged between Norfolk and Jamestown, the first slated for the 12th.[4] On February 19, it was reported that Norfolk and Jamestown were slated to play that evening.[5] No results from the January 12 or February 19 games were reported. As with the previous season, the teams played five-on-five hockey, as opposed to the usual seven-man play.

Teams from Rossland and Nelson were challenged to come play in Spokane, but this did not happen as the Electrical Workers union announced that the Star Shingle company (which owned the rink in Spokane), was on the "unfair list", thus preventing several hockey playing union members on the BC teams from playing at the venue. Spokane did participate in the Open Challenge Series of the Rossland Winter Carnival.

After the season, the Spokane rink was taken over by an ice making company. Hockey was not played regularly again in Spokane until 1916.
