The Bulgarian women's ice hockey team represents Bulgaria at the International Ice Hockey Federation's IIHF World Women's Championships. The women's national team is controlled by Bulgarian Ice Hockey Federation. As of 2011, Bulgaria has 27 female players.[1] The Bulgarian women's national team is ranked 24th in the world.

History

The Bulgarian women's hockey team has competed at very few high level international tournaments. It took its first attempt at the olympic gold in a qualification tournament. They played four games against Slovakia, Croatia, Italy, and Latvia. They lost all four games and were not able to qualify for the Olympics. The scores were 39-0 against Latvia, 30-1 against Croatia, 41-0 against Italy, and a record breaking 82-0 loss to Slovakia.[2] The only goal was scored by forward, Olga Gospodinova assisted by the defensemen Elina Milanova and Sofiya Iliycheva.[3]

World Championships record

In 2011 the Bulgarian Women team was the first time involved in the World Championship competition.

  • 2011 – Finished in 33rd place (3rd in Division V).
  • 2013 – Finished in 34th place (2nd in Division IIB Qualification).
  • 2014 – Finished in 35th place (3rd in Division IIB Qualification).
  • 2015 – Finished in 36th place (4th in Division IIB Qualification).
  • 2016 – Finished in 36th place (4th in Division IIB Qualification).
