Qiqihar (team)
Qiqihar is a Chinese ice hockey team based in the city of the same name. The club was founded in 1954.
History
They play in the Chinese National Championship and are, along with Harbin, one of the most successful teams in the country.
The team joined the Asia League Ice Hockey for the 2004-05 season, as did Harbin, while also retaining a squad in the domestic Chinese competition. As part of the Nordic Vikings entry into the league, Qiqihar sent three players to play on their team for the 2005-06 season. In return, the Vikings provided three players, a coach and an official to Qiqihar.
The Asia League squad changed its name to Changchun Fuao and relocated to Changchun for the 2006-07 season. The Chinese Championship team was not impacted by this move.
For the 2007-08 season, a merger between Changchun Fuao and the Harbin Asia-League squad Hosa created the China Sharks, later known as the China Dragon. This single team competed in the Asia League until 2017, while independent Harbin and Qiqihar sides played in the national championship.
