History of hockey in Hawaii
The Honolulu Ice Palace is the only full service ice arena in the state. The arena opened on September 28, 1982.
The arena hosts youth and adult hockey as well as pickup hockey games. The Ice Palace Hawaiian Adult Ice Hockey League has existed at the rink since 1984.
The facility also hosts the Hawaiian Classic Ice Hockey Tournament which had its 34th edition in April of 2018. The tournament is held with 16 men's teams from Hawaii and other cities mostly from the far western United States. 26 teams competed in the inaugural Ahloa Cup tournament in 1984, playing under the auspices of the Southern California Oldtimers Hockey Association.
Hawaii is the only state where only amateur hockey has ever been played. No professional or junior teams have called it home.
