Promotion round
There were originally going to be two relegation matches between the last place team in the Oberliga and the winner of the promotion round game between the top two 1. Liga finishers. BSG Turbine Crimmitschau defeated ASK Vorwarts Erfurt (2:2 and 7:4) in this series. However, BSG Aufbau Schönheide withdrew from the Oberliga unexpectedly, and instead a four team tournament featuring the top two teams from each Liga group was arranged to decide the promoted club.
