The 1953 Spanish Championship was the first edition of the national ice hockey championship in Spain since the 1920s. It was won by Atlético Club de Madrid. The competition was staged in Nuria.

Tournament

Semifinals

Final

  • Atlético Club de Madrid 13 - Club Alpino Nuria 0

Team rosters

  • Atletico Club de Madrid: Alfaro, Llanas, Ruano, Basa, Arche, Pimeco I, Santaella, Grieza, Pimeco II, Alonso, Hassler

The names of Arche and Hassler are worth further study. Arche was either a son of one of the Spanish hockey pioneers in the 1920s, the three Arche brothers, or it was one of them who played. Hassler is another intriguing name. There is a good possibility it was the old French star Albert Hassler, who was 49 at the time. As a former speed-skating champion, he likely still would have been able to compete at the much lower level found in Spain.

  • Club Alpino Nuria: Eustaqui, Casamitjana, García, Coll, Dosta, Famos, Viñas, Bahr, Compañá
  • Valldemia: Soler, Recolón, Bori, Torrado, Llorens, Pasquin, Bigorra, Boronat
